Hemp is a tall woody plant with natural wood fibers found in all the tropical and temperate countries of the world. The plant has nearly thirty varieties, all resembling one another in physical appearance and properties.

Among the known varieties of hemp, only those possessing high luster, high tensile strength and fineness are grown on a commercial basis. Hemp resembles flax and is often mistaken for linen. The fiber cannot be bleached easily without causing damage to the fiber.
