Types of Silk

There is a variety of silks that are available for use in different industries including apparel and home furnishings etc. The physical characteristics and properties of different kinds of silk will vary depending on how it is manufactured. Cultivated Silk: This type of silk is produced from domesticated silkworms. These silkworms are especially cultivated and grown for producing fine quality silk.

Wild Silk: This type of silk is produced from a number of undomesticated silkworms. Wild silk is obtained from caterpillars other than the mulberry silkworm. The term "wild" is used as these silkworms cannot be domesticated and artificially cultivated like the mulberryworms.
