Brussels is widely sold
machine-made carpet having small, colored woolen loops which help to form a
heavy, patterned pile. It was the first type of carpet woven on a Jacquard
Loom. The manufacturing process is some what similar to that of a wilton
carpet. Hard twisted yarns are used for the pile, ensuring the production of
a very durable product.
The carpets are level loop, in which the wool is not exposed as pile is
carried in a dense backing. Various colors are drawn to the surface
according to the required pattern. Colorful mix of patterns can be achieved
by alternating or planting colors.
The carpets epitomize luxury and were used int he homes of the rich and the
famous. Best quality carpets and rugs can be woven with five frames.
